Candidate Cities 2024 deliver vision, concept and strategy plans to IOC

Candidate Cities 2024 deliver vision, concept and strategy plans to IOC

(Championspk )The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has received the four Candidature Files from Los Angeles (USA), Rome (Italy), Budapest (Hungary) and Paris (France)* for hosting the Olympic Games 2024. Today was the deadline for part one of the Candidature File: Vision, Games Concept and Strategy to host the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad 2024.

The Candidature Process 2024 is the first to be launched following the adoption of Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. The new Candidature Process encourages the Cities to present Olympic projects that best match their sports, economic, social and environmental long-term planning needs. It calls for the use of existing facilities where possible, and provides flexibility for the venue concept to meet local sustainability and legacy needs and ambitions.

“Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest and Paris are all submitting projects fully in line with Olympic Agenda 2020. It is impressive to see how they have incorporated the Olympic project into the long-term development plans of their city, region and country. Coming from different starting points, for all four there is a clear focus on sustainable development, legacy and in particular how the facilities are going to be used after the Olympic Games. We are delighted to have four extremely strong candidatures and look forward to a fascinating competition”, IOC President Thomas Bach said.

Jacqueline Barrett, Associate Director Olympic Games/Olympic Candidatures, commented: “Following Olympic Agenda 2020, the Candidate Cities are making use of an extremely high percentage of existing and temporary venues, possibly the most ever. The plans received indicate very thoughtful consideration of what the Cities and their people need for the future. The IOC has significantly simplified the Candidature Process, symbolised by the fact that the submissions arrived for the very first time on a USB key only, instead of thousands of pages of paper documents.”

The new Candidature Process features a progressive submission of information to allow planning to develop organically and at an appropriate pace. The three stages each address different elements of the Cities’ proposals:

Young Blues fan makes heartwarming gesture, gifts Tarasenko stick to another youngster

Young Blues fan makes heartwarming gesture, gifts Tarasenko stick to another youngster

(Champiospk )Every young fan at a hockey game thinks of the moment a puck comes sailing into the crowd and they make a great grab to take home a souvenir. That’s a moment that kid will never forget. So imagine instead of a puck, it’s a stick, and instead of catching the stick, he or she is handed it by one of the best players on the home team. That’s exactly what happened in St. Louis this past weekend, as post-game a young fan leaned over the railing and held his hands out only for Vladimir Tarasenko, arguably the best Blues player, to hand off his stick as a souvenir.

The young fan who snatched it up and was ready to leave, but instead of taking off with his newfound treasure, the young man, who was wearing a Jori Lehtera jersey, spotted a youngster in a Tarasenko jersey and did the selfless thing: he walked back down the stairs, up to the kid and passed off Tarasenko’s stick

The story doesn’t end there, though. The Blues caught wind of the young fan’s gesture and took to their Twitter account to seek him out. “Anyone know the young fan in the (Lehtera) jersey?” the Blues asked via Twitter. “We’d like to reward him for his nice gesture.” In less than a day, the Blues had located the fan and contacted his family. What exactly the team did for the youngster isn’t known, but we’re sure St. Louis took care of him. It’s nice to see the Blues rewarding him, too, because after giving away a prize like that from Tarasenko in order to make another young fan’s wish come true, he deserves everything that comes his way.

Amir should not be brought back for national duty, Inzamam tells PCB

PAKISTAN(By Raja ibrar)Former Pakistan captain Inzamaul Haq advised Pakistan Cricket Board against including left-arm pacer Muhammad Amir in the national team saying that the dressing room environment will be disturbed.

Following Amir’s exceptional performance in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League for Chittagong Vikings, a debate has been sparked on whether the pacer will be brought back for national duty or not.

“I don’t think it would be a good idea to allow either Aamir or the two other players involved in the spot-fixing scandal back into the Pakistan team,” said Inzamam.

“I just feel that if Aamir is selected again for the national team it will divert the focus of the other players away from cricket and there will be added pressure on them and Aamir,” he added.

Former Pakistan captain went on to say, “I know from experience that if Aamir is selected in the Pakistan team and when it goes to England, Australia or even India the media will just focus on him and it will mean problems in the dressing room.”

Vikings vs Superstars: Amir, Ajmal bowl Chittagong to victory

Inzamam, who has played 120 tests and 398 one-day internationals for Pakistan, claimed that there was nothing personal in his demand but the PCB should have an independent policy on tainted players different from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“The PCB needs to be clear in its stance on players who have been involved in corruption and tarnishing the image of the country. Because playing for the national team is the highest honour for any athlete,” said Inzamam.

Inzamam further said that it will not be easy for Amir also to make a return and not face pressure and problems.

“I can imagine the questions that would be asked if Pakistan lost a close match or if he couldn’t perform at the right time. I can imagine the taunts from the crowd and all these things will only divert the attention of the team away from cricket,” Inzamam added.

Riders vs Vikings: Misbah, Amir heroics steal the show

Amir’s BPL duty is the first time after the five-year ban that he has played outside Pakistan’s domestic structure. His domestic heroics were the reason that he was brought in to bowl outside the usual draft of players.

Pakistani veterans and stalwarts are divided on allowing Amir back into the national team but the left-armer has been making a strong case for himself with the ball lately

England learn World Twenty20 fate

England learn World Twenty20 fate

England(Championspk )England will open their 2016 World Twenty20 campaign against West Indies in Mumbai after the ICC announced the tournament schedule today.

Eoin Morgan’s side, who have won their last six 20-over contests, have been drawn in Super 10 Group 1 and, as well as the Windies, will face Sri Lanka, South Africa and the winner of Group B – which includes Zimbabwe and Scotland.

After facing 2010 winners West Indies on March 16, England remain in Mumbai to take on South Africa two days later, before heading to New Delhi to face the winners of Group B on March 23.

The group campaign concludes against Sri Lanka in New Delhi on March 26, with the top two sides progressing to the semi-final.

The International Cricket Council announced the schedule at the launch ceremony in Mumbai on Friday. The competition will take place at eight venues from March 8 to April 3, with Mumbai and New Delhi staging the semi-finals and Kolkata the final.

ICC chairman Shashank Manohar, who attended the draw, said: “India is a country where cricket is a religion and not many places can match the passion for the game like India.

“I am fully confident that the Board of Control for Cricket in India will deliver an outstanding world cricket event, just like the ICC Cricket World Cups in 1987, 1996 and 2011.”

ICC chief executive David Richardson said: “The ICC World Twenty20 is an event which puts the world’s best cricketers in the shortest format of the game against each other in a nation-versus-nation contest.

“The Twenty20 format provides the perfect vehicle by which the ICC can further globalise the game, providing international exposure and opportunity to our top associate and affiliate members.

“The ICC World Twenty20 event structure is designed to provide highly competitive matches throughout, with eight evenly matched sides fighting it out in the first round and the best two then getting in the mix with the top eight ranked teams in the Super 10 stage, where the intensity and competition will be of the very highest level.”

John Mooney Announces Retirement from International Cricket

John Mooney Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Ireland(Championspk )The 33 year-old told Cricket Ireland Head Coach John Bracewell of his decision earlier today. “I’ve decided to call time on what has been a wonderful career in the green of Ireland,” said Mooney. “At this stage of my career, I’m beginning to think about what comes next, especially commitments to my new gym and personal training business. I’ve always given 100% to the team, and it wouldn’t be fair on them to keep going if I’m not fully committed. “I’ve also been playing internationally for 14 years and over the past few seasons have found that the intensity and demands of the modern game have placed a considerable strain on my body. It’s also become increasingly difficult to spend such long periods of time away from my wife and young family. Mooney is one of only four Irish players to play in three World Cups, along with the O’Brien brothers and Irish skipper William Porterfield. He admitted those competitions held a special place in his heart. “I’ve some fantastic memories having played in three World Cups – the first of which in 2007 included my elder brother Paul. In 2011 I also had what I described as my ‘Ray Houghton moment’ hitting the winning runs against England.” The North Dubliner paid tribute to those who had helped him in a memorable career in which he won 182 caps. “I’ve worn the jersey with pride and passion in the last 14 years and would like to thank my family, team mates, support staff and Cricket Ireland who have helped me during what has been an incredible journey.” Irish skipper William Porterfield paid tribute to Mooney saying: “There are few players who have worn the Irish jersey with as much pride as John Mooney. His passion, fighting qualities and enthusiasm meant he was always someone I was glad was playing for me rather than in the opposition ranks. “He would always put the team first no matter what you asked him to do, should that be opening the bowling or fourth change he always put the side first. He epitomises what it means to put on the Irish Jersey. “Of course he’ll always be remembered for the game against England in Bangalore but for me his bowling display in the ICup win over Afghanistan summed up for me what he was all about. He led the attack after Trent went off injured and took 10 for 81 on a batting paradise in difficult conditions. I would personally like to thank him for everything that he has done for Irish cricket.” Cricket Ireland Head Coach John Bracewell thanked Mooney for his commitment and service to Irish cricket: “John Mooney has been an iconic figure for Irish cricket where his passionate and talented displays played an integral part in our success. “His longevity in a 14 year career is testament to both his talent and his consistency – he rarely let his team down and it’s no coincidence that he was involved in so many key moments in Ireland’s triumphs over the years. “I’d like to thank him for his efforts over an illustrious career, and wish him and his family all the very best in the future,” concluded Bracewell. Mooney played 182 times for Ireland in all competitions, including 64 ODI’s and 27 T20I’s. He scored 2605 runs at an average of 23.68, which included nine 50’s and one hundred – against The Netherlands. He also took 144 wickets at 27.29, which included a Man of the Match ten wicket haul against Afghanistan in 2013 as Ireland claimed their fourth ICC InterContinental Cup title.
