Candidate Cities 2024 deliver vision, concept and strategy plans to IOC

Candidate Cities 2024 deliver vision, concept and strategy plans to IOC

(Championspk )The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has received the four Candidature Files from Los Angeles (USA), Rome (Italy), Budapest (Hungary) and Paris (France)* for hosting the Olympic Games 2024. Today was the deadline for part one of the Candidature File: Vision, Games Concept and Strategy to host the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad 2024.

The Candidature Process 2024 is the first to be launched following the adoption of Olympic Agenda 2020, the IOC’s strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. The new Candidature Process encourages the Cities to present Olympic projects that best match their sports, economic, social and environmental long-term planning needs. It calls for the use of existing facilities where possible, and provides flexibility for the venue concept to meet local sustainability and legacy needs and ambitions.

“Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest and Paris are all submitting projects fully in line with Olympic Agenda 2020. It is impressive to see how they have incorporated the Olympic project into the long-term development plans of their city, region and country. Coming from different starting points, for all four there is a clear focus on sustainable development, legacy and in particular how the facilities are going to be used after the Olympic Games. We are delighted to have four extremely strong candidatures and look forward to a fascinating competition”, IOC President Thomas Bach said.

Jacqueline Barrett, Associate Director Olympic Games/Olympic Candidatures, commented: “Following Olympic Agenda 2020, the Candidate Cities are making use of an extremely high percentage of existing and temporary venues, possibly the most ever. The plans received indicate very thoughtful consideration of what the Cities and their people need for the future. The IOC has significantly simplified the Candidature Process, symbolised by the fact that the submissions arrived for the very first time on a USB key only, instead of thousands of pages of paper documents.”

The new Candidature Process features a progressive submission of information to allow planning to develop organically and at an appropriate pace. The three stages each address different elements of the Cities’ proposals:

Landan(Championspk)It might be one down for Andy Murray at the ATP World Tour Final but he is taking nothing for granted in London. An opening clash with David Ferrer proved relatively routine for the Olympic champion as he came through in straight sets 6-4 6-4. But, while he might have taken an early lead in his group, he knows a match with Rafa Nadal will be a stern test. “It was a tough match with a lot of long rallies and he fought right the way through to the end as always,” said Murray. “You have to try and win every match, every game counts, a few years ago I got knocked out in the group stages by one game or something. “So you need to try and win the matches in two sets if you get the opportunity which was good for me today. “Just because I have won my first match there are no guarantees and I need to win the next one which will be tough against Rafa.” – See more at: http://www.teamgb.com/news/olympic24-valegro-to-retire-murray-wins-in-london#sthash.WYHjHVvs.dpuf

Pakistan should never Accept the offer to play cricket series in India

Pakistan should never Accept the offer to play cricket series in India

ISLAMABAD (Championspk) Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has on Monday said that Pakistan should never accept the offer to play cricket series in India. He said that it is impossible for Pakistan to keep singing the ballads of friendship despite continuous hate-mongering from the Indian side,

Talking informally to media at Punjab House in Islamabad, Chaudhry Nisar said that India’s treatment was unfair with former Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shehryar Khan, PCB Chief Executive Najam Sethi and revered singer Ghulam Ali. “Why was there no action against anyone for such behaviour with Pakistanis in India?” questioned Nisar.

Pakistani Interior Minister said that Indian government was behind everything that happened to the Pakistani citizens in India. He said that Pakistan should never accept the offer to play the cricket series in India. “It is Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s prerogative whether he wants to send the team to India or not but I will keep opposing such an act”, he added.

“It is impossible for us to keep singing the ballads of friendship while Indians continue war-mongering”, he said. Nisar added that Pakistan will raise the issue of declaring Shiv Sena as a terrorist organization on international level

Scores killed in Paris attacks, Hollande declares emergenc

PARIS(Championspk) Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium at locations across Paris on Friday, killing at least 120 people in a deadly rampage that a shaken President Francois Hollande called an unprecedented terrorist attack. A Paris city hall official said four gunmen systematically slaughtered at least 87 young people attending a rock concert at the Bataclan music hall. Anti-terrorist commandos eventually launched an assault on the building. The gunmen detonated explosive belts and dozens of shocked survivors were rescued. Some 40 more people were killed in five other attacks in the Paris region, the city hall official said, including an apparent double suicide bombing outside the national stadium, where Hollande and the German foreign minister were watching a friendly soccer international. Some 200 people were injured. The coordinated assault came as France, a founder member of the US-led coalition waging air strikes against Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, was on high alert for terrorist attacks ahead of a global climate conference due to open later this month. Paris Public Prosecutor Francois Molins said the death toll was at least 120. His spokeswoman said eight assailants had also died, seven of whom had blown themselves up with explosive belts at various locations, while one had been shot dead by police. “The terrorists, the murderers raked several cafe terraces with machine-gun fire before entering (the concert hall). There were many victims in terrible, atrocious conditions in several places,” police prefect Michel Cadot told reporters. After being whisked from the soccer stadium near the blasts, Hollande declared a nationwide state of emergency — the first since the end of World War Two — and announced the closure of France’s borders to stop perpetrators escaping. The Paris metro railway was closed and schools, universities and municipal buildings were ordered to stay shut on Saturday. However some rail and air services are expected to run. “This is a horror,” the visibly shaken president said in a midnight television address to the nation before chairing an emergency cabinet meeting. He later went to the scene of the bloodiest attack, the Bataclan music hall, and vowed that the government would wage a “merciless” fight against terrorism. All emergency services were mobilized, police leave was canceled, 1,500 army reinforcements were drafted into the Paris region and hospitals recalled staff to cope with the casualties. The prosecutor’s spokeswoman said she could not say whether any gunmen were still at large. Radio stations broadcast warnings to Parisians to stay home and leave the streets and urged residents to give shelter to anyone caught out in the street. The deadliest attack was on the Bataclan, a popular concert venue where the Californian rock group Eagles of Death Metal was performing. The concert hall is just a few hundred meters from the former offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, target of a deadly attack by Islamist gunmen in January. Some witnesses in the hall said they heard the gunmen shout Islamic chants and slogans condemning France’s role in Syria. “We know where these attacks come from,” Hollande said, without naming any individual group. “There are indeed good reasons to be afraid.”

High alert France has been on high alert ever since the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and a kosher supermarket in Paris in January killed 18 people. Those attacks briefly united France in defense of freedom of speech, with a mass demonstration of more than a million people. But that unity has since broken down, with far-right populist Marine Le Pen gaining on both mainstream parties by blaming immigration and Islam for France’s security problems. It was not clear what political impact the latest attacks would have less than a month before regional elections in which Le Pen’s National Front is set to make further advances. The governing Socialist Party and the National Front suspended their election campaigns. Ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy, now leader of the main conservative opposition party, said, “The terrorists have declared war on France” and backed the state of emergency and border closure. Hollande canceled plans to travel to Turkey at the weekend for a G20 summit. He called an emergency meeting of his national security council for 9 a.m. (0800 GMT) on Saturday. US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel led a global chorus of solidarity with France and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the “despicable attacks” and demanded the release of the hostages. Julien Pearce, a journalist from Europe 1 radio, was inside the concert hall when the shooting began. In an eyewitness report posted on the station’s website, Pearce said several very young individuals, who were not wearing masks, entered the hall during the concert, armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles and started “blindly shooting at the crowd.” “There were bodies everywhere,” he said. The gunmen shot their victims in the back, finishing some off at point-blank range before reloading their guns and firing again, Pearce said, after escaping into the street by a stage door, carrying a wounded girl on his shoulder. Toon, a 22 year-old messenger who lives near the Bataclan, was going into the concert hall with two friends at around 10.30 p.m. (2130 GMT) when he saw three young men dressed in black and armed with machine guns. He stayed outside. One of the gunmen began firing into the crowd. “People were falling like dominoes,” he told Reuters. He said he saw people shot in the leg, shoulder and back, with several lying on the floor, apparently dead. There was no immediate verifiable claim of responsibility but supporters of the Islamic State militant group, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria, said in Twitter messages that the group carried them out. “The State of the caliphate hit the house of the cross,” one tweet said. Two explosions were heard near the Stade de France in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis, where the France-Germany friendly soccer match was being played. The blasts were audible on television during the live broadcast. A witness said one of the detonations blew people into the air outside a McDonald’s restaurant opposite the stadium. The match continued until the end, but panic broke out in the crowd as rumors of the attack spread, and spectators were held in the stadium and assembled spontaneously on the pitch. Police helicopters circled the stadium as Hollande was rushed back to the interior ministry to deal with the situation. In central Paris, shooting erupted in mid-evening outside a Cambodian restaurant in the capital’s 10th district. Eighteen people were killed when a gunman opened fire on Friday night diners sitting at outdoor terraces in the popular Charonne area nearby in the 11th district. The prosecutor mentioned five locations in close proximity where shootings took place around the same time. The Paris carnage came within days of attacks claimed by Islamic State militants on a Shiite Muslim district of southern Beirut in Lebanon, and a Russian tourist aircraft which crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Earlier on Friday, the United States and Britain said they had launched an attack in the Syrian town of Raqqa on a British Islamic State militant known as “Jihadi John,” but it was not certain whether he had been killed.

IOC satatement on WADA independent Camnission Report

IOC satatement on WADA independent Camnission Report

( Championsok)This is a deeply shocking report and very saddening for the world of sport. The IOC trusts that the new leadership of the IAAF with its President Sebastian Coe will draw all the necessary conclusions and will take all the necessary measures. In this context the IOC welcomes the clear commitment expressed by IAAF to do “whatever it takes to protect the clean athletes and rebuild trust in our sport.”

The protection of the clean athletes is a top priority for the International Olympic Committee. This is why in Olympic Agenda 2020 the IOC has undertaken far reaching measures in this commitment.

With regard to the Olympic Games, the IOC will continue to take whatever measures needed to safeguard clean athletes, clean sport and good governance. In the most recent Olympic Summit meeting we have decided to make testing independent from sports organisations and have entrusted WADA to come up with proposals.

The IOC will also carefully study the report with regard to the Olympic Games. If any infringements on the anti-doping rules by athletes and or their entourage should be established, the IOC will react with its usual zero tolerance policy.

We support the attempt of the independent commission to bring all the facts to light in the interest of the integrity of the sport and the protection of the cleans athletes.

With regard to the police inquiries against the former IAAF President Mr. Lamine Diack the IOC Ethics Commission has today decided to recommend the provisional suspension of his IOC honorary membership.

Great Leader Misbah-ul-Haq

Great Leader Misbah-ul-Haq

Islamabad(Championspk )Captain Misbah-ul-Haq has led Pakistan to yet another series win in the UAE, this time beating a strong England team 2-0. Pakistan maintained its undefeated Test series record in the UAE. Misbah’s leadership has elevated Pakistan to number 2 in the World ICC Test rankings.

In the current Test series against England Misbah scored 352 runs at an average of 58.7. He continues to be the rock of the middle order line up.

We have to thank and appreciate Captain Misbah ul Haq, for his many years of service to Pakistan cricket. These sentiments are echoed by Pakistani fans across the world. We owe it to him for rescuing Pakistan cricket from its lowest depths in 2010. He personally as captain, has led by example and given us respect back on the international level.

Let’s take a look at Misbah’s career.

His Test match debut was in 2001, at the age of 27 years. Scoring a total of 4352 runs, at an average of 48.9.With 9 centuries and 32 fifties. Highest score 161 not out.

As captain, Misbah has played 42 Test matches, won 20, lost 11 and drawn 11. This is an impressive record. Several international commentators are calling him the best ever Test captain that Pakistan has had.

One Day International debut 2002, total of 5122 runs, average 43.4. Highest score 96 not out, 42 fifties. Even at the age of 41 years Misbah’s fitness is exemplary, many have retired at a much younger age. He is still faster than the youngsters.

In 2010 when Salman Butt was removed as captain for spot fixing, Pakistan were desperate for a leader. Misbah at the age of 36 years was chosen as the successor, it was the best decision made by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Misbah’s solid middle order batting and leadership skills made a vital, much needed impact. His calm, determined temperament together with exception cricketing knowledge brought Pakistan back to its feet. Time after time we depended on him for valuable runs, he rarely disappointed.

Misbah provided hope, intellect and stability to the nation. Even though he was unable to lead any international home games in Pakistan, he adapted to playing abroad.

Under his leadership Pakistan won Test series against New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia and England. In one day series we beat Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, India and New Zealand. He also secured an Asia Cup title win. He brought success in many Twenty20 games.

Misbah ul Haq the nation of Pakistan is indebted to you for your most significant contribution. Cricket critics around the world are fully aware of your immense role. Misbah is quietly humble and not the type of captain to go around reminding people of his vast achievements. This personality trait is much appreciated and admired by many.

The world of cricket is fully aware of how Misbah was responsible for turning around a sinking ship and providing the required stability and courage. He navigated the team through deeply troubled waters. He took the challenges and pressure in his stride.

There is little doubt that being the captain of the Pakistan cricket team is the most difficult and demanding occupation there is.

Misbah has not decided whether he will tour England as captain next year, he has not entirely ruled it out either.

Recently he said that playing county cricket in England may be an option before the series, to get used to the swinging, seaming pitches.

Misbah has been the best role model, leading by example. He is an extraordinary batsman and wise captain. Pakistan salutes you.

Xi appeals for Sino-British football boost

Xi appeals for Sino-British football boost

Manchester( Championspk)President Xi Jinping called on Friday for China and Britain to strengthen co-operation on football as he ended his four-day state visit to the United Kingdom.

As the birthplace of modern football and boasting strong teams, Britain is the country China should learn from, Xi said.

He said both countries should bolster co-operation and exchanges in the sport to promote friendship between their two peoples.

Football is the sport that most people play in the world and it has an extensive influence and is welcomed deeply by people globally, the president said.

Xi, who is a football fan, made his appeal as he toured the City Football Academy in Manchester where he was presented with a football shirt by Manchester City players.

Accompanied by British Prime Minister David Cameron, he visited the state-of-the-art training facility that includes a 7,000-capacity stadium and 16 football fields. The academy is home to Manchester City Football Club and is the headquarters of its global football organisation.

The president and Cameron posed for a selfie with Sergio Aguero, City’s star Argentine striker. The photo went viral on the Internet.

Xi and Cameron were hosted by Manchester City Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. They watched a training session and met players who helped build the city’s football tradition, including former Manchester United captain Gary Neville and ex-City stars Patrick Vieira and Mike Summerbee.

Xi and Cameron also toured the National Football Museum, which houses artifacts including a ball used in the final of the inaugural 1930 World Cup.

The museum presented a copy of the first competition rules for modern world football to Xi as a gift. In return, he presented a cooper statue featuring cuju, an ancient Chinese football game, to the museum and a cooper statue of a cuju doll to Manchester City.

Another highlight of the visit was the induction into the National Football Museum’s Hall of Fame of Chinese player Sun Jihai, who played 130 times for Manchester City between 2002 and 2008.

Sun, the first Chinese player to score in the English Premier League, was named City’s Ambassador to China last month.

“Xi’s visit to the City Football Academy is a great encouragement for the development of Chinese football,” Sun said, adding that training for young players is the most important task now in China.

With the ongoing football reforms in the country, Sun said he hopes the Chinese national team can make good progress.

Al Mubarak, the City chairman, said,” It was a wonderful moment for all concerned to see Sun Jihai’s contribution to both Manchester and English football recognised by the National Football Museum.

“Today is testament to the club’s strong existing links with China and to our ambitions for them to deepen and grow.”

Xi is scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Saturday.
