Pakistan should never Accept the offer to play cricket series in India

ISLAMABAD (Championspk) Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has on Monday said that Pakistan should never accept the offer to play cricket series in India. He said that it is impossible for Pakistan to keep singing the ballads of friendship despite continuous hate-mongering from the Indian side,

Talking informally to media at Punjab House in Islamabad, Chaudhry Nisar said that India’s treatment was unfair with former Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shehryar Khan, PCB Chief Executive Najam Sethi and revered singer Ghulam Ali. “Why was there no action against anyone for such behaviour with Pakistanis in India?” questioned Nisar.

Pakistani Interior Minister said that Indian government was behind everything that happened to the Pakistani citizens in India. He said that Pakistan should never accept the offer to play the cricket series in India. “It is Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s prerogative whether he wants to send the team to India or not but I will keep opposing such an act”, he added.

“It is impossible for us to keep singing the ballads of friendship while Indians continue war-mongering”, he said. Nisar added that Pakistan will raise the issue of declaring Shiv Sena as a terrorist organization on international level

Scores killed in Paris attacks, Hollande declares emergenc

PARIS(Championspk) Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium at locations across Paris on Friday, killing at least 120 people in a deadly rampage that a shaken President Francois Hollande called an unprecedented terrorist attack. A Paris city hall official said four gunmen systematically slaughtered at least 87 young people attending a rock concert at the Bataclan music hall. Anti-terrorist commandos eventually launched an assault on the building. The gunmen detonated explosive belts and dozens of shocked survivors were rescued. Some 40 more people were killed in five other attacks in the Paris region, the city hall official said, including an apparent double suicide bombing outside the national stadium, where Hollande and the German foreign minister were watching a friendly soccer international. Some 200 people were injured. The coordinated assault came as France, a founder member of the US-led coalition waging air strikes against Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq, was on high alert for terrorist attacks ahead of a global climate conference due to open later this month. Paris Public Prosecutor Francois Molins said the death toll was at least 120. His spokeswoman said eight assailants had also died, seven of whom had blown themselves up with explosive belts at various locations, while one had been shot dead by police. “The terrorists, the murderers raked several cafe terraces with machine-gun fire before entering (the concert hall). There were many victims in terrible, atrocious conditions in several places,” police prefect Michel Cadot told reporters. After being whisked from the soccer stadium near the blasts, Hollande declared a nationwide state of emergency — the first since the end of World War Two — and announced the closure of France’s borders to stop perpetrators escaping. The Paris metro railway was closed and schools, universities and municipal buildings were ordered to stay shut on Saturday. However some rail and air services are expected to run. “This is a horror,” the visibly shaken president said in a midnight television address to the nation before chairing an emergency cabinet meeting. He later went to the scene of the bloodiest attack, the Bataclan music hall, and vowed that the government would wage a “merciless” fight against terrorism. All emergency services were mobilized, police leave was canceled, 1,500 army reinforcements were drafted into the Paris region and hospitals recalled staff to cope with the casualties. The prosecutor’s spokeswoman said she could not say whether any gunmen were still at large. Radio stations broadcast warnings to Parisians to stay home and leave the streets and urged residents to give shelter to anyone caught out in the street. The deadliest attack was on the Bataclan, a popular concert venue where the Californian rock group Eagles of Death Metal was performing. The concert hall is just a few hundred meters from the former offices of the satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, target of a deadly attack by Islamist gunmen in January. Some witnesses in the hall said they heard the gunmen shout Islamic chants and slogans condemning France’s role in Syria. “We know where these attacks come from,” Hollande said, without naming any individual group. “There are indeed good reasons to be afraid.”

High alert France has been on high alert ever since the attacks on the Charlie Hebdo newspaper and a kosher supermarket in Paris in January killed 18 people. Those attacks briefly united France in defense of freedom of speech, with a mass demonstration of more than a million people. But that unity has since broken down, with far-right populist Marine Le Pen gaining on both mainstream parties by blaming immigration and Islam for France’s security problems. It was not clear what political impact the latest attacks would have less than a month before regional elections in which Le Pen’s National Front is set to make further advances. The governing Socialist Party and the National Front suspended their election campaigns. Ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy, now leader of the main conservative opposition party, said, “The terrorists have declared war on France” and backed the state of emergency and border closure. Hollande canceled plans to travel to Turkey at the weekend for a G20 summit. He called an emergency meeting of his national security council for 9 a.m. (0800 GMT) on Saturday. US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel led a global chorus of solidarity with France and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned the “despicable attacks” and demanded the release of the hostages. Julien Pearce, a journalist from Europe 1 radio, was inside the concert hall when the shooting began. In an eyewitness report posted on the station’s website, Pearce said several very young individuals, who were not wearing masks, entered the hall during the concert, armed with Kalashnikov assault rifles and started “blindly shooting at the crowd.” “There were bodies everywhere,” he said. The gunmen shot their victims in the back, finishing some off at point-blank range before reloading their guns and firing again, Pearce said, after escaping into the street by a stage door, carrying a wounded girl on his shoulder. Toon, a 22 year-old messenger who lives near the Bataclan, was going into the concert hall with two friends at around 10.30 p.m. (2130 GMT) when he saw three young men dressed in black and armed with machine guns. He stayed outside. One of the gunmen began firing into the crowd. “People were falling like dominoes,” he told Reuters. He said he saw people shot in the leg, shoulder and back, with several lying on the floor, apparently dead. There was no immediate verifiable claim of responsibility but supporters of the Islamic State militant group, which controls swathes of Iraq and Syria, said in Twitter messages that the group carried them out. “The State of the caliphate hit the house of the cross,” one tweet said. Two explosions were heard near the Stade de France in the northern suburb of Saint-Denis, where the France-Germany friendly soccer match was being played. The blasts were audible on television during the live broadcast. A witness said one of the detonations blew people into the air outside a McDonald’s restaurant opposite the stadium. The match continued until the end, but panic broke out in the crowd as rumors of the attack spread, and spectators were held in the stadium and assembled spontaneously on the pitch. Police helicopters circled the stadium as Hollande was rushed back to the interior ministry to deal with the situation. In central Paris, shooting erupted in mid-evening outside a Cambodian restaurant in the capital’s 10th district. Eighteen people were killed when a gunman opened fire on Friday night diners sitting at outdoor terraces in the popular Charonne area nearby in the 11th district. The prosecutor mentioned five locations in close proximity where shootings took place around the same time. The Paris carnage came within days of attacks claimed by Islamic State militants on a Shiite Muslim district of southern Beirut in Lebanon, and a Russian tourist aircraft which crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. Earlier on Friday, the United States and Britain said they had launched an attack in the Syrian town of Raqqa on a British Islamic State militant known as “Jihadi John,” but it was not certain whether he had been killed.

IOC satatement on WADA independent Camnission Report

IOC satatement on WADA independent Camnission Report

( Championsok)This is a deeply shocking report and very saddening for the world of sport. The IOC trusts that the new leadership of the IAAF with its President Sebastian Coe will draw all the necessary conclusions and will take all the necessary measures. In this context the IOC welcomes the clear commitment expressed by IAAF to do “whatever it takes to protect the clean athletes and rebuild trust in our sport.”

The protection of the clean athletes is a top priority for the International Olympic Committee. This is why in Olympic Agenda 2020 the IOC has undertaken far reaching measures in this commitment.

With regard to the Olympic Games, the IOC will continue to take whatever measures needed to safeguard clean athletes, clean sport and good governance. In the most recent Olympic Summit meeting we have decided to make testing independent from sports organisations and have entrusted WADA to come up with proposals.

The IOC will also carefully study the report with regard to the Olympic Games. If any infringements on the anti-doping rules by athletes and or their entourage should be established, the IOC will react with its usual zero tolerance policy.

We support the attempt of the independent commission to bring all the facts to light in the interest of the integrity of the sport and the protection of the cleans athletes.

With regard to the police inquiries against the former IAAF President Mr. Lamine Diack the IOC Ethics Commission has today decided to recommend the provisional suspension of his IOC honorary membership.

Lillehammer 2016 “rocking the Youth Olympic Games”

Lillehammer 2016 “rocking the Youth Olympic Games”

Norway(Championspk )With just under 130 days to go to the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, this coming February (12-21), the local organisers (LYOGOC) presented their final preparations to the IOC Coordination Commission this week. The young team vowed to combine elite sport competition with a festival atmosphere across the cities in a free event that they describe as “rocking the YOG”.

Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission Angela Ruggiero said, “The team in Lillehammer should be very proud of what they are developing; this event stands out from other sports competitions as a wonderful combination of elite sport, a festive atmosphere and the opportunity for young people to be inspired and learn through sport. All of this is taking place in a nation with a rich Olympic history and awesome venues. Lillehammer 2016 is innovating and taking the Youth Olympic Games to a new level.”

Final plans for the “Sjoggfest” – meaning snow festival and named after the mascot, Sjogg, particularly impressed the IOC Coordination Commission members as an event that appeals to youth culture while testing new concepts and pushing the boundaries of the YOG. Some 1,100 of the world’s best young athletes and future champions will compete in all of the seven sports on the Olympic programme, with some new youth-focused additions over the 10 days of the Games, while spectators and athletes alike will be able to enjoy a daily programme of film, music and arts festivals that brings together some of Norway’s leading talent.

In close collaboration with the International Federations, the Organising Committee has completed its sports initiation programme, which will allow visiting athletes and spectators to try out different sports for themselves under the guidance of expert coaches. Away from the competition venues, a “Sports Lab”-style concept will take place in an urban environment, allowing new sports to be showcased and enjoyed such as telemarking, ice-climbing, parkour, bandy and icestocksport.

The Organising Committee presented its final legacy plans, which aim to write a new Olympic history for Lillehammer and Norway. Twenty-two years after the Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer 1994, all venues are functioning at the highest level for international competition following a series of upgrades for the YOG, including new snow production infrastructure at Hafjell, a new freestyle venue and an updated ski jump profile at the iconic Lysgårdsbakken – the venue also for the Opening Ceremony. The Youth Olympic Village, supported by the IOC’s EUR 13.5 million contribution, has been open since 1 September, and students are already enjoying their new residence ahead of the Games.

For future generations, an Olympic Legacy Centre is being created in Lillehammer, securing its place as the home for international winter sports athletes. In addition, Lillehammer 2016 is already realising its ambition to contribute to the 10-year plan of boosting Norwegian youth sports: 200 young leaders are now fully trained not only to support during Games-time, but also giving them opportunities for future careers in sport. A total of 20,000 children have been invited by Oppland and Hedmark regions to experience a “Dream Day” at Lillehammer 2016, including watching sports competitions and participating in sports initiations, educational activities and festivals.

The Youth Olympic Flame will be lit in Athens on 1 December, to be followed by a Torch Tour that will carry this excitement across the nation with 21 “flame events” taking place across all counties of Norway, organised by young people and highlighting young ”changemakers” who have made a difference through sport in their communities. The start of the Torch Tour will be broadcast live at the annual Norwegian Sports Gala on 9 January.

Tomas Holmestad, Lillehammer 2016 CEO, said, “The Olympic flame may light up Lillehammer for the 10 days of the Games, but that spark is already alive in the city, and the excitement is spreading across Norway. Thanks to the support from our NOC, the national sports federations, government at all levels and the fantastic team in place, we are ready to deliver one big sporting party!”

Almost 7,000 volunteers have signed up to fill the 3,000 places required during Games time and, with close to 70 per cent being under the age of 30 and almost half being international volunteers, this demonstrates the growing reach and international interest in the YOG among young people.

The fifth and final IOC Coordination Commission visit follows an exciting few days for the host city. Guests from 66 countries gathered in Lillehammer, including the Chef de Mission representatives, 39 Young Ambassadors (YAs), chosen by the NOCs to guide the athletes through their YOG experience, and five of the 15 Athlete Role Models (ARMs) – Olympians and champions who act as sports mentors throughout the Games. The YAs and ARMs took part in the series of workshops, excursions and team-building activities that will be open to the athletes during Games time. This programme, which will be run by leading experts, is intended to support athletes in their future careers on and off the field of play, and covers topics such as healthy lifestyles, anti-doping, illegal betting, injury prevention and life after sport.

IOC drives discussions on pregnancy and elite athletes

IOC drives discussions on pregnancy and elite athletes

Switzerland(Bertrand REY )Experts from around the world convened for an unprecedented three-day meeting at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters earlier this week to discuss research and recommendations on exercise during pregnancy and after childbirth for elite athletes. Sixteen leading experts joined representatives from the IOC Medical & Scientific Commission in Lausanne, Switzerland, to consolidate for the first time their respective expertise and knowledge on these topics, review the existing data available and identify future areas of research.

The health and well-being of athletes is a key priority for the IOC and its Medical and Scientific Commission. From busting myths to defining best practices and tackling frequently asked questions on the influence and management of pregnancy for an elite athlete, the objective of this IOC initiative is to produce comprehensive guidelines and recommendations on exercise during pregnancy and postpartum.

With the continuous increase in the number of female elite athletes, and more and more pregnant women in elite sport, the IOC has recognised that there is a need to better understand pregnancy and childbirth in elite athletes, to ensure that sportswomen can make informed choices for their futures and those of their children.
